Crab Feed this Saturday, January 28

In case you didn’t know, (but I know at least 430 have heard) Christ The King CYO Crab Feed is this Saturday, January 28 at the CTK gym.  Special thanks to Vince Cirelli and his cadre of volunteers for coordinating what is sure to be another amazing event.  For coaches, please check in with your commissioners, (or go directly to Vince) as there are a few volunteer shifts needed to be filled for the evening.

This effort is the single largest fundraiser supporting the parish’s CYO activities, with all proceeds being used to help improve the program for our kids.  We hope you plan to attend.

We look forward to seeing you there.

The Spirit of Christmas Alive and Well at CTK

The Spirit of Christmas is alive and well.  And this year, the Christ the King CYO program renamed is Holiday Classic Basketball tournament to show how the spirit is transcended through ministry and athletics.

The girls 7th grade and 8th grade basketball teams hosted parishes from around the area in one of the best played and most competitive tournaments in years.  We want to thank all the parishes, several of which sent two teams, that made the decision to spend their holiday break with us:  St. Isadore, St. Agnes, Holy Rosary, St. Catherine’s, St. Simon, St. Joan of Arc and St. Francis.

The program was a success and Christ the King will be making a contribution to the Oakland Diocese CYO Sports Fund in the name of the Spirit of Christmas Tournament.  Job well done.

Special thanks to all the volunteers and coaches, as well as the many CTK Crusaders who spent hours at the gym, who made the week-long effort a success:  Steve Murphy, Thom Martin, Doug Senz, Vince Cirelli, Joe Dalpiaz, Ray Ramirez, Paolo Braganza, Rob Bruder, Ashleigh Montgomery and Tim Miller.

The season is more than half way done and teams return to the hardwood the weekend of January 7-8.  Look for more updates here.

And finally,  the Christ the King Crab Feed is just one month away.  Check here for an update or contact Vince Cirelli if you need anything at all: cirellihomes@gmail.com.

Happy Year Year.

Christ the King presents The Spirit of Christmas Tournament

Time to celebrate the Spirit of Christmas!

Christ the King is proud to host a tournament in the Christmas season and have named our tournament the “Spirit of Christmas Tournament”. Our goal is to link the Spirit of Christmas with the games on the courts with the people in the stands and through giving to those who are less fortunate than us. All proceeds from the gate and the snack stand will be given to a Diocese of Oakland, CYO Sports Grant Fund that assists local CYO programs that need financial resources.

Admissions: Admission is $3 per person or a donation to the Oakland Diocese CYO Sports Grant Fund.  That program provides assistance to CYO programs in the East Bay that lack the resources to improve and run their programs. Your donations can be made in cash, or check made out to Oakland Diocese CYO Sports Grant Fund. Gifts of $25 or more will receive a thank you letter in the mail that can be used for tax purposes. A donation of any size will allow all members of your family admission to all games in the tournament.

Trophies and awards: Trophies will be handed out after the final games for First and Second place teams.  Additionally, players will receive a participation gift at the end of their first game.

Rules The tournament is following CYO rules with the exception of the following:

-    4 quarters of a 7-minute stop clock.

-    First quarter broken down into 2 -3:30 second periods to allow for to ensure all players are in the game at least 1⁄2 of first quarter.

Snacks: On sale we will have sodas, waters, sports drinks, and candy and energy bars. So plan on loading up while you watch the games, remember, it’s healthy snacking as long as your watching sports. We will also have on sale a limited number of “Sprit of Christmas “ Tournament bracelets for the low price of $2.

Special thanks to Steve Murphy, Thom Martin, Joe Dalpiaz, Vince Cirelli and all our coaches and volunteers who are making this special tournament possible.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Now That’s a Tournament!

Crusader Fans:

Just a quick word of thanks to all the parents, coaches, referees and players who made our 26th Annual (can you believe it) Turkey Shootout basketball tournament a great success.

Christ the King hosted 13 parishes for a week of great basketball and community giving.  In all, the program collected and donated a few hundred pounds of food for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

I know we may miss some folks, but here is a list of the volunteers who contributed their time to make such a great event:  Steve Murphy, Brad Slininger, Randy Ridgway, Kathy Ridgway, Pat Ertola, Vince Cirelli, Doug Senz, Jame Baird, Gus Jullien and Thom Martin.  In addition, it was great to see the number of CTK CYO players stick around to help.  And it was delightful to have some dedicated alumni return, as well as former athletic director, Rick Ramacier, try his hand at the scoring table.

Now, on to the  Christmas Classic event featuring our girls 7th Grade American and 8th Grade National teams, December 19 – 22 at the CTK Gym.  As always, our fantastic tournaments director Steve Murphy will lead us through the effort.

Thanks everyone.
